{"id":1637,"date":"2013-09-06T00:14:17","date_gmt":"2013-09-05T14:14:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asktheatheist.com\/?p=1637"},"modified":"2013-09-06T06:36:40","modified_gmt":"2013-09-05T20:36:40","slug":"christian-question-buffet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asktheatheist.com\/?p=1637","title":{"rendered":"Christian question buffet."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we get several questions by J &#8230;..<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Name: J<br \/>\nMessage: As a Christian, I will readily admit that I have faith (as the Bible defines it: &#8220;..the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.&#8221; Hebrews 11:1)<\/p>\n<p>I cannot prove to anyone the existence of God. \u00a0In fact the whole idea of being a Christian is to have faith in God without having to prove He exists scientifically or otherwise&#8211;and that being a personal decision devoid of coercion. \u00a0Though there is some science, history, and fact in the Bible, it is not a book on such topics. \u00a0I personally see the need for God and His Bible in my life and in society.<\/p>\n<p>I respect the decisions, philosophy, and path that atheists choose, though I may agree to disagree with them. \u00a0Here are my questions to atheists (if I may ask more than one):<\/p>\n<p>-Is religion needed in the world?<br \/>\n-Can atheism become a religion?<br \/>\n-Do you have to have faith to be an atheist?<br \/>\n-Can an atheists prove that God doesn&#8217;t exist?<br \/>\n-What&#8217;s more beneficial, being an atheist or agnostic?<br \/>\n-Where do atheists get morals?<br \/>\n-Why is it wrong to murder?<\/p>\n<p>Respectfully, J<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Those are a lot of questions J. In the mean time I&#8217;m going to give you short and to the point answers that can be expanded upon in the comments if you need more info.<\/p>\n<p>Okay? Here we go&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is religion needed in the world?<\/strong><br \/>\nI hope not.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can atheism become a religion?<\/strong><br \/>\nReligion is the politics of mythology. Since atheism has no such mythology, I would say no. (<a href=\"https:\/\/asktheatheist.com\/?p=682\" target=\"_blank\">Read more here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you have to have faith to be an atheist?<\/strong><br \/>\nNo. Don&#8217;t confuse faith with reasonable expectation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can an atheist prove that god doesn&#8217;t exist?<\/strong><br \/>\nCan you prove that I don&#8217;t have an invisible intangible dragon living in my garage?<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is more beneficial? Being an atheist or an agnostic?<\/strong><br \/>\nBeing both. They are not mutually incompatible. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WkBjMf1PtvA&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\">More here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why is it wrong to murder?<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you don&#8217;t know the answer to that you should ask yourself why your god would create you without being able to understand why murder is wrong on your own.<\/p>\n<p>And there you go.
