Go Where The Science Leads

Question from “Not an atheist”:
Why do you atheists believe you know better than actual scientists that figured all this shit out? Science doesn’t lead to atheism, it refuted atheism a long time ago.

Answer by SmartLX:
Science is a process, and it has definitely led many to atheism by helping them discover natural explanations for phenomena previously thought to be the work of gods. Everyone thinks of evolution as an example, but it goes all the way back to things like the existence and movement of the sun. Others simply attribute the new mechanisms to God as well and are awed by the wondrous ways in which He apparently works, so science does end up leading some farther from atheism than they started. Overall, where science “leads” in this sense is highly subjective and therefore varies wildly.

As for your last point, have a quick search of the site to see if the specific refutation of atheism you’re thinking of is already addressed. If not, we’d love to hear about it. If so, drop a comment on the article you find and we’ll pick up from there.

  1. Answer from Ms NIKI KAPETANOU, a “YES, AN ATHEIST”:

    Only a stinking little dog s.h.i.t., as are yourself, not deserving a better destiny than being stepped on by Dirty Harry, can say, referring to .S C I E N T I S T S (oh, what a shame !), that they have figured out all that S.H.I.T. (this is simply outrageous !!!), that is, WHETHER THERE IS GOD, OR NOT (OF COURSE, THERE ISN’T AND YOU CAN TURN UPSIDE DOWN AND INSIDE OUT, BUT .T H E R E .I S .N O .G O D, .E N D .O F .S T O R Y !!!)

You, little s.h.i.t., for your information, we, the ‘yes, atheists’, read science on daily basis and have gone to UNIVERSITIES and have VERY HIGH IQ’s and also, there are many scientists among us, of positive sciences, that is, that we, the simple, plain PROUD, ARDENT ATHEISTS as am myself, follow, and ON WHOSE FINDINGS WE HAVE FORMED, each and every of us, OUR ATHEISTIC OPINIONS.

Unlike you, whose opinion is formed when you were infants, with no logic, nor knowledge yet, whatsoever, and passed onto your naive little minds, by your illogical parents, just as yourselves and the church, all based on a silly BABBLE, A BUBBLE, written by some illiterate liars who kept sheep, being, just as are you all, i.d.i.o.t.s.

So, please keep away from us, cos you stink event through your written word. You are a disgusting nobody. Not worthy to talk to US, ATHEISTS.

As for SmartLX’s advice to you, to REFER TO HIM, AND US, about any REFUTATION OF ATHEISM BY SCIENCE, that you are in vain hoping to find, you can only hope to find one such piece of scientific refutation of atheism. But, you never will.

Because, the case is exactly the opposite: There is no such thing!!!

    1. So glad your proud and swearing at people asking questions, which is what they should be doing.

      1. I’m with James on this one Niki, especially after looking up “budala” from the other thread. Not okay. Make points forcefully, sure, but insults don’t convince anyone of anything so there’s no point.

  2. The fathers of modern physics accepted God and creation, but atheists know everyhing better.

    1. Yes they did, generally speaking, because almost everyone did at the time. Theism wasn’t where science led them, it was how they were brought up in the first place and they interpreted everything in that context. And of course it all happened before Darwin.

What ultimately matters is the reasons why they believed, because stacking up theist vs atheist scientists is useless as the truth is not a matter of majority opinion. If the same reasoning doesn’t convince us, it’s perfectly valid to think that some very intelligent people were wrong about one particular thing (just as you believe regarding all atheist scientists).

    2. Not an atheist – What the fathers of modern physics did not do, and to which they readily admitted, was find evidence for the existence of gods or the supernatural. This is called honestly, and seems to be lacking in some these days.

More to the point, you’ve attempted to create an argument from authority, although it actually failed. Since the “fathers of modern physics accepted God and creation”, you somehow think that their intelligence on scientific matters lends more weight to their belief system. It does not. Anyone can do good science. There is no prerequisite in the scientific method for a person to be tall, short, fat, thin, male, female, left or right handed, theist, atheist, etc. All that matters is following the scientific method and producing work that can be repeated and verified. Just because the “fathers of modern physics” were really good at physics doesn’t mean they were really good at belief systems. Science is based on empirical data and evidence, and the other is to date a baseless speculation about unproven claims. Being good at physics doesn’t make then right about gods. You need to understand the difference between the two statements.

  3. “Science doesn’t lead to atheism, it refuted atheism a long time ago.”

I see this claim regularly at many of the websites that I visit. It is usually presented in just this way, as a one sentence claim devoid of any detail or information that would give someone like myself any reason to consider it remotely true. If you have anything of substance to add, I hope you return to the website and post it for all to see.

For the record, science doesn’t comment on theism or atheism. Science makes observations about the universe. If those observations agree or disagree with religious claims, such as the ones found in the Bible for example, that is incidental to why science is being done in the first place.

  4. “Not an Atheist”. Atheism is not a who or a what. It is a state of mind. And most of the time, one places themselves in that state of mind. Each of us decide what we want to believe. Mainly because of what we decide we want to believe. If an Atheist looks at a human being and all they see is a piece of meat, nothing you say will change that Atheist’s mind on how they see a human being. It is like a sculpture who, looks at a piece of rock and where you or I might see a stone to skip over the water (granted, after it has been whittled down some,) a sculpture would instead see “The Thinker”. It is really a matter on how you allow yourself to perceive the world around you. Sometimes we, because of circumstances, get bogged down into a mindset and it is hard to see anything else that goes on around you but in the frame of mind in which you have allowed yourself to be in. And of course the people and habits of our lives help to maintain our reference views. That is why when someone is trying to extricate themselves from bad habits, or their present frame of mind, they many times need to change relationships, and customs to aid them in that change. For an Atheist to change their decision about God, they must first be willing to open up their rather open view, a little larger to include the possibility of God. I say rather open view, because most Scientist, which may or may not be Atheists, although some would fancy themselves as much. but I know plenty who are Atheist who are such on what someone said but who have not actually looked at any of the supposed evidence that has been purported to be evidence. Which some or some may or may not do, depending upon their frame of minds. To many knowing or knowing God or if He exists is just not high in their priorities. And for some Atheists, finding out of there is God is lower than their desire to show there is no God. Which has to be for many because of how they blindly accept Evolution even though they only have here say’s to go on. Without being shown how what is being claimed is actually able to be. But I said this mostly because I would really like to encourage you. First to keep on “truckin with Jesus”, but to get to know Him better. Christians are not brutes. We are not to be vulgar. And this must be reflected in how we comport ourselves in person, but especially when we can’t be seen. Like when we are on line, and posting. We are representing the God of the Universe, even if no one is admitting or accepting that He is. And they need to see His glory through us, or through what we offer. So words are mightier than the sword, even if they are only on line. God bless you as you walk with Him in person and on line.

    1. Gerald writes: [“Not an Atheist”. Atheism is not a who or a what. It is a state of mind.]

No it’s not. You don’t believe in leprechauns Gerald. Is your lack of leprechaun belief a “state of mind”? Is your lack of belief in Santa a “state of mind”? Of course not. Lack of belief in the Bible god is no more a state of mind than not believing in Zeus or Odin…

[Each of us decide what we want to believe. Mainly because of what we decide we want to believe.]

Amazing that Gerald of all people thinks he can speak for atheists. For all the atheists I know anyway, their lack of belief has nothing to do with what they want. It has everything to do with the complete lack of empirical evidence and data for the existence of gods or the supernatural. It’s a rational conclusion based on the dearth of proof for god myths. They don’t want to lack belief in gods, they’ve concluded that there is no gods. Big difference that you would do well to comprehend.

[If an Atheist looks at a human being and all they see is a piece of meat, nothing you say will change that Atheist’s mind on how they see a human being.]

Being an atheist or a believer has nothing to do with how you view humans. Hitler was an avowed Christian, how do you think he viewed humans? Please refrain from blanket statements about people you know nothing about.

[It is really a matter on how you allow yourself to perceive the world around you. Sometimes we, because of circumstances, get bogged down into a mindset and it is hard to see anything else that goes on around you but in the frame of mind in which you have allowed yourself to be in.]

No doubt the irony of you writing this statement is completely lost on you.

[For an Atheist to change their decision about God, they must first be willing to open up their rather open view, a little larger to include the possibility of God.]

No. As has been explained to you more times than I care to count, all it would take is some empirical data. In fact you’ve been asked to provide such data, and have never been able to produce the goods. Most atheists will tell you that they do leave open the possibility that some kind of god creature exists, myself included (the Bible god as claimed cannot possibly exist however). Atheists consider the possibility of gods, but the don’t accept it has a reasonable answer because there is no proof for them.

[To many knowing or knowing God or if He exists is just not high in their priorities. And for some Atheists, finding out of there is God is lower than their desire to show there is no God. Which has to be for many because of how they blindly accept Evolution even though they only have here say’s to go on. Without being shown how what is being claimed is actually able to be.]

What an immense disappointment it is to read your writings sometimes. You make the most bizarre leaps of false logic I have ever seen, and you repeat the same tired mistakes over and over. You love to dismiss evolution despite the billions of facts that support the scientific theory, and in fact make the inaccurate claim that evolution can’t be “shown how what is being claimed is actually able to be”, while maintaining a belief in some flavor of god being for which you cannot provide even one scrap of empirical for its existence. Your blatant double standard is so obvious to anyone paying attention, and yet you can’t see it despite writing it yourself. The irony once again escapes you…

  5. I don’t know what is happening, but quite a few times I have made up my post and when I click on the post comment button, it turns away from the page and says the page can’t be contacted and when I finally get back to the original page my post is nowhere to be found. Is anyone else having this issue?
